5 Health Benefits of Olives (And Why They’re a Great Healthy Snack)

Are Olives Healthy?

Yes! Olives are really good for you and aswell as being absolutely delicious they are a great healthy snack. All in moderation of course like anything.

Olives are so versatile too, add them to a cheeseboard, cook with them, a healthy snack and to accompany a cocktail of course!

We have highlighted 5 key health benefits that Olives bring.

5 benefits of eating olives.

  1. Olives are rich in Antioxidants.
  2. High in Calcium, iron and Copper.
  3. Vitamin E is found in Olives that helps protect our cells from damage caused by things called 'free-radicals'
  4. Protecting your Heart Health. This is one of the most important health benefits of olives.
A good friend of mine works in Cardiology at our local Hospital and she actually says they recommend Olives as part of a healthy diet to their patients and can support heart health.

    5. We use Rapeseed oil in our olive blends, not any old rapeseed Oil Bell and Loxton which is a locally produced cold pressed oil, we absolutely love this oil and it was the first local ingredient to be used in our olives.
We prefer the taste of the rapeseed oil and it's actually so much better for you than various other oils, it contains less than half the saturated fat with roughly 3 x the Vitamin E content too!

    Why Rapeseed oil?

Olive oil isn't produced locally, and using locally produced ingredients in our olive blends is one of our niche selling points and something we have wanted to focus on from the beginning of West Country Olives.

Using Bell and Loxton means were supporting a local family business like us and decreasing carbon footprint whilst trying to keep as sustainable as possible.

We have built a strong working relationship with Jon and Rachel who produce the rapeseed oil on their farm in the rolling hills of South Devon.

We love that we are supporting another small local business, boosting our economy together.

We love the taste of rapeseed oil, it is relatively low in saturated fat and it contains Vitamin E.

We purchase the Bell and Loxton Rapeseed oil in 5 litre containers, but we also sell their 500ml aluminium bottles in original, garlic and basil

At home we use the original and garlic oil on a regular basis and love both of these oils, the colour is incredible, tastes fresh and we love that there is lots of health benefits.

We used the basil oil in a Vegan pesto pasta recipe and the flavour was unreal, adding our South Devon Basil Pesto olives to the recipe.
