Picante Pimento Olives:

Picante pimento olives are large green Halkidiki olives, stuffed with red pimento pepper. The pimento peppers are stuffed by hand and give a fresh and crisp taste with a slight warmth. Harissa paste is added at production to give a mild heat and add flavour. We also add local rapeseed oil from Bell & Loxton and lemon juice to this olive to really round out the flavour profile.

What is Pimento?

Pimento is a type of small red pepper, often said to be shaped like a heart. These sweet mild peppers are known to grow in South America, Spain, Hungary, Morocco and the Middle East. These peppers are known for their flavour, that’s why we think they’re a perfect addition to our pimento olives, as flavour comes first.

Are Pimento olives good for you?

The pimento peppers themselves are high in vitamin A which promotes skin health. They also contain vitamins B2, B3 and B6, aiding in fighting anemia, preventing arthritis and protecting eye health respectively. It doesn’t stop there, Pimento peppers also contain a high amount of copper, which is known to support bone health, growth and development. The olives themselves are mammoth green pitted Halkidiki olives and have an abundance of health benefits of their own. These olives are loaded with antioxidants, which benefit heart health and decrease the risk of certain serious diseases. Green pitted olives are also known to increase the good cholesterol in our blood and help to normalise blood pressure for those experiencing hypertension. No more Harissa Glazed Olives?

For those of you that haven’t been with us long, you may not know that we once produced an olive flavour called ‘Harissa Glazed’ but have since discontinued it. We discontinued this flavour due to the fact that it was rather similar to our picante pimento olives and although we loved the flavour, it was definitely missing something. Our Harissa glazed olives were the same in every way to our Picante Pimento however they were not stuffed with pimento peppers and that was ultimately their downfall. They lacked the sweetness and crunch of the pepper, so they had to go. Since then, our Picante Pimento olives have grown to be one of our most popular olives in the range and a firm favourite amongst the staff here at West Country Olives.
